With the season of colder weather and lots of parties how can you stay well? Scientists are now very aware of the gut-brain and gut-immune connection. So among all of the tricks I have accumulated over the years of combatting and fighting colds once I have them, I have also realized the importance of creating a strong foundation and preventing colds from happening in the first place! Especially being a mom with small kids...nothing seems to work in the family when mom is out sick! One of my favorite immune building and cold fighting teas is fresh ginger and turmeric tea. It is absolutely delicious. Even my husband loves it. I just have to share some of the amazing benefits of Turmeric because it has been studied so much and recognized as one of the most effective supplements EVER! It is widely known and accepted that inflammation occurs in all disease and aging processes. Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can help relieve PAIN, improve inflammation, help prevent and treat Cancer, Alzheimers, lowers the risk of Heart disease, benefits against depression and age-related chronic diseases. It can help your body fight bacteria and viruses and helps repair any damage that has been done. It can neutralize free radicals and boosts your bodies own antioxidant enzymes. Turmeric also boosts brain derived neurotrophic factor linked to improved brain function. And because black pepper increases the absorption by 2,000%, I like to put a pinch of it in my tea too. 


So here's the recipe I have used and loved over the past 4-5 years:


1. Boil 3-4 cups of filtered water.

2. Grate 2" fresh ginger and 2" fresh turmeric (or about a tablespoon of each).

3. Pour boiled water over fresh ginger and turmeric mix with a pinch of black pepper.

4. Let steep for 10-12 minutes.

5. Add local raw honey and fresh squeezed lime or lemon to taste. 


The citrus will turn the color of the tea from a beautiful amber to a bright yellow hue
